School Farm Tours
Come & experience the sights, sounds & smells
of life on the farm.
Join us for a tour of our Pumpkin Farm.

School Farm Tours

Your class will enjoy a wide range of hands-on activities that will help them gain an understanding of farming & the important role that agriculture plays in all our lives.

Each group will be accompanied by one of our friendly & knowledgeable farm guides.
Our tour provides students with firsthand knowledge of farming with special emphasis on what's up on the farm & tying it in to the school curriculum appropriate for your class.
Your students will also enjoy some down-on-the-farm fun.

DIFFERENT PROGRAMS FOR DIFFERENT AGES:
Once again we are pleased to offer agricultural tour programs of our century farm to suit every age range.

ALL FARM TOURS INCLUDE:

  • A wagon ride through our fields & along the scenic Niagara Escarpment.
  • A visit to the Animal Farm to get up close & personal with a wide variety of four-legged & two legged friends.
PRESCHOOL & JK:
  • Your little farmers will have a chance to make believe in the Machinery Shed where toy farm machinery is housed in sand tables filled with corn meal.
  • Jump & tumble in clean loose straw in the ever-popular Straw Fort or get lost amongst ten thousand balls in our Corn Bin.
  • New this Year- Snack Time! In one of our picnic barns the little farmers can take a break and enjoy a snack of juice & cookies before they head back to school.
Class Snack Packs are included in the admission price for Preschools, JKs & SK. Snacks are offered during our spring programs & the first two weeks in October.

SK & GRADE I

  • Your students will visit our greenhouse & vegetable garden where they can examine a variety of common & not so common vegetables plus learn the basic needs of plants & how they grow.
  • In the Machinery Shed learn about the farm machinery we use to till the soil & plant our crops.
  • Next stop the Straw Fort. In October your class also has the option of visiting the Spook Hut instead.

GRADE 2 & UP:

  • Visit the greenhouse & vegetable garden & get a close up look at different types of plants. Parts of a plant, the life cycle of a plant (including germination, photosynthesis & pollination) plus seasonal effects on plants will be discussed.
  • In the Agri-Maze join farmer Jim on a typical day on a dairy farm. Learn about milking cows, computerized feeding systems & how we make those funny round bales of hay or straw. Soil samples will be examined & soil composition & characteristics will be discussed.
  • For some good ol' country fun, we'll stop at the Straw Fort or Spook Hut (October tours only) - where your class is sure to leave behind any excess energy!

EVERYONE GETS...

  • Each student that visits the farm receives their own package of sunflower seeds (spring) or a mini pumpkin (fall).
  • In October each class receives a pumpkin suitable for carving.
  • Agricultural-based activity packages suitable for SK & up are available to teachers at the end of the tour.
